Portrait of Gustavo Patiño is a video installation that follows the life of a farmer and poet who, together with his community, resisted the construction of one of the largest gold mining projects in Latin America—planned for the very mountains and rivers of his beloved hometown.
The work offers an intimate reflection on the relationship between life, land, and resistance, weaving together Gustavo’s poetry, daily practices, and the collective strength of a community defending its territory. At its heart, it is a meditation on how nature and food are not only sources of sustenance but also of cultural identity, memory, and dignity.
By intertwining testimony, landscape, and verse, the installation reveals the deep connection between ecology and human experience, showing how the defense of territory becomes a defense of life itself.
