Architectural Kinetics explores facades as dynamic light-generating surfaces that modulate public space. Using the grid patterns embedded in the Merchandise Mart's architecture, the piece creates a kinetic interplay of light and form by superimposing and interfering these structural geometries. Drawing on the legacy of kinetic artists like Rafael Soto and Carlos Cruz-Diez, the work transforms static architectural patterns into analog inputs for movement and composition. The facade becomes both canvas and mechanism—a monumental light trap that reveals the latent motion and chromatic energy within modernist design.
